Introduction

Students attending this course are taught a range of skills such as how to produce interactive presentations incorporating video, audio, animation and graphics. Subjects are taught on Apple Mac computers.

Students are taught on a one to one basis as much as possible. The majority of work on the course is practical rather than theory based, therefore students on this course produce varied and substantial portfolios.

Duration:

This is a one year daytime course. Students attend three and a half days per week and are given course work to complete outside of classtime.

Students must complete and pass 8 modules in the one year in order to receive a full level 5 certificate

Career Opportunities / Further Studies

This full level 5 certificate facilities entry to the Multimedia , Level 6 course in Kinsale. It also facilities entry on a competitive basis to a range of third level colleges.

As part of the work experience module each student spends ten days working for a company or organisation. Marcin Pikula, (who completed the course in 2010), spent his ten days of work experience working for ’Walsh Printers ‘, in Clonakilty. Walsh Printers, offered Marcin a full time job as a graphic designer, once he had completed his level 5 certificate.

Facilities in this Department

This department contains the most up to date hardware and software. Students on this course are assigned their individual Apple Mac computer, which they can work at all day everyday that they are in class.

Facilities include wireless Apple Mac, wide screen G5s, a range of digital video cameras, still cameras, scanners, sound recording equipment, music/soundtrack production equipment, colour and black & white laser printers and ink jet printers. We have a green screen animation room, in which students can produce stop-motion animations, with the option of mixing them with live video. 3D computer animations can also be produced using Cinema 4D.

Software includes; Cinema 4D,  Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Microsoft Office.

Notes

  • For full FETAC Certificate, Communications and Work Experience are mandatory.
  • Students may select from different Course groups.
  • VTOS, BTE and 3rd level grants available.
  • Study in Kinsale and avoid city traffic.
  • Public transport available from Cork.

All courses are subject to an adequate number of applicants and may be subject to change.
Places are awarded to sucessful applicants upon interview. Interviews take place at the end of  May and in the first week in September.
