Portfolio Preparation Course in Fashion and Textile Design:

This dynamic 1 year course, taught by successful fashion designers, is designed to introduce students to the world of Fashion Design. It is ideal to those who wish to proceed to further study of the subject at third level and will provide them with a solid and well rounded portfolio to do so.
Students will also be well equipped with the qualifications and the skill necessary for direct employment at a junior or employee level in the fashion or textile Industry or in related craft Industries.
During the course of the Year, students will be taught about and exposed to all aspects of fashion design including, garment design and construction, pattern draughting and technical drawing, appreciation and understanding of different fabrics and textiles and their varying properties and uses, fashion illustration, collection creation, styling for fashion photo shoots and shows and fashion organisation.

There will be a series of exciting and diverse projects throughout the year in which students will put together collection designs, design and make garments, organise fashion photo shoots of their garments, illustrate their garments and collections in innovative and creative ways and design and make original textiles to be incorporated into garment design. There is also an opportunity for students to study jewellery design as part of their course and create their own accessories.

Work Experience will play an important part during the year and students will be guided and supported in finding work experience within the fashion world from which they will gain valuable contacts and insights.
The year will culminate in a Fashion Show, with all aspects of the event being organised and designed by the students.
Students final project design creations will be shown on the catwalk with local press and media in attendance.
No previous experience in Fashion is necessary for entrance to this course.

VTOS, BTE and 3rd level grants available.
